Love at First Bark

Our challenge

For its ‘Love At First Bark’ campaign, Purina wanted to create a hero video and social cuts around pet adoption. Where do you start looking? How do you know which dog is right for you? What happens when you bring your new family member home? And how do you keep them healthy? We partnered with Washington Post to follow 12 year-old Kailyn and her family on their journey to adopt little Spot in Atlanta, GA. We were able to offer a first-hand look at the magic of falling in love at first bark.

Our approach

We developed all creative materials in-house, including treatments, production style guides, and production books, while working closely with Washington Post on the narrative. We also worked with the client on the casting process and offered production-forward input. We knew we’d landed on the perfect story when we met Kailyn Boyd. Our Atlanta crew followed Kailyn and her family as they picked up Spot at the humane society, brought her home, trained her, and fed her a balanced and nutritious diet. We also filmed and integrated training vignettes with Atlanta-based vet Dr. Callie to add handy and useful information to the piece. To bring the journey full circle, we also captured Kailyn and her graphic designer dad as they created a book about their adoption process, called ‘A Spot To Call Home.’ In the video, we hear Kailyn reading from the book, as we see Spot lounging on her lap. Sometimes a heartwarming moment doesn’t need words.
